Enter the area’s length and width. It tries the strips both ways and picks the layout that wastes the least turf, with a trim allowance on every edge.

The calculator itself is interactive and runs on the HTML page: https://artificialturfcanada.ca/tools/turf-roll-calculator.

## Questions people ask

### How wide are artificial turf rolls?

Most residential artificial grass comes on 15 ft wide rolls, and some products come 12 ft wide. Rolls are cut to the length you order, so the width decides how many strips and seams you get.

### How much extra turf should I order?

Enough to trim every edge to the border, usually a few inches per edge on a straight run, more on curves. On a rectangle the extra is mostly the part of the last strip that hangs past the width; this calculator adds both.

### Which way should the strips run?

All strips must run in the same direction with the grain (the way the fibres lean) pointing the same way, or the seams show. Pointing the grain toward where you look from most, usually the house, makes the lawn look fullest.

### Does this work for odd shapes?

Measure the smallest rectangle that contains the shape and use that; the cut-offs are the waste. For L-shapes, add up two rectangles but run all the strips the same direction.
