Size matters most. One Toronto installer publishes $30–$35 per sq ft under 400 sq ft, $25–$30 per sq ft from 400 to 2,000 sq ft, and $20–$25 per sq ft above that.

A 300 sq ft green at the under-400 sq ft rate works out to about $9,000–$10,500, before HST and any fringe. Chipping areas, sand traps and lighting add more.

How big should a backyard putting green be?
Big enough for two or three cups and putts of different lengths: many backyard greens are 200 to 500 sq ft. Leave room for a fringe if you want to chip onto it.
Can a putting green go indoors or on a deck?
Yes. Indoor and deck greens skip the excavation and gravel base, so they cost less per square foot, but the floor or deck must be level and able to take the weight of the infill.
